BODY RECONSTRUCTION

BODY RECONSTRUCTION

(BODY LIFT) BASICS

A Body Lift, or Body Reconstruction, is a procedure which removes the excess skin and fat from the abdomen, outer thighs and buttocks. It is a tummy tuck all around the body. Dr. Stiller helped develop a new, innovative Lipo-Body Lift procedure which can be performed as an outpatient surgery without the use of drains. During this procedure, not only will the skin be tightened, but Liposuction will also reduce the fat in these problem areas. The muscles of the abdomen can be tightened as with an Abdominoplasty. Both men and women who have lost a significant amount of weight or find changes in their torso with aging seek this procedure.   Once you’ve reached your goal, you might find that your new, healthier, thinner body needs some additional fine-tuning. That’s because a large amount of excess skin that has been stretched around the abdomen, arms, legs, breasts and face may have lost its elasticity. After significant weight loss, the skin often fails to shrink back to its former size and shape. Dr. Stiller of Linea Cosmetic Surgery offers body contouring procedures designed specifically for patients who have achieved significant weight loss or excess skin due to pregnancy. BEST CANDIDATES FOR A BODY RECONSTRUCTION

The best candidate for a Body Lift is a healthy, physically fit individual who has excess skin and fat in the midsection that doesn’t respond to exercise. Most commonly, men and women who have had massive weight loss find that the skin doesn’t have the elasticity to respond to the loss of weight. A Body Lift is not a substitute for weight loss; it is designed for re-contouring the torso making the abdomen flatter and lifting the buttock and outer thighs. Think carefully about your expectations and desires and discuss them with Dr. Stiller. A thorough understanding and explanation of what you are looking for is critical to your results. Your consultation is a time for you to communicate your expectations to Dr. Stiller and to work together to choose the best procedure for you.

GET TO KNOW YOUR DOCTOR

This is your time to get to know Dr. Stiller and the staff at Linea. Be sure to convey your goals and expectations for the surgical procedure. Dr. Stiller will evaluate your medical health and explain the surgical techniques available to you. All of your questions related to the procedure will be answered as thoroughly as possible. Dr. Stiller will perform an examination of your trouble area at the consultation. Dr. Stiller will go over the risks and potential complications and he will explain the preoperative and post-operative process.

RISKS

All procedures carry some uncertainty and risks.

As with any surgery, bleeding is a risk. This may form a blood collection called a hematoma and may require drainage. It is important to discuss any history of excessive bleeding or family history of bleeding.
Infection is relatively uncommon. Antibiotics will be given to you during the surgery and usually will be taken after the surgery.
Scars from an abdominoplasty are from hip to hip and around the belly button. Dr. Stiller will try to keep the scars as low as possible. Scars may widen after the surgery and typically fade over time.
Wound edges can occasionally pull apart. Your body will heal it, but it may prolong the healing time.
  • Numbness or sensation changes of the skin
  • Some patients will require additional surgery
  • There may be asymmetry in some areas.
  • Pigmentation change of skin is possible
  • Irregular contour may occur

Skin slough/necrosis: When wound edges are put together sometimes the skin edges can slough. Your body will heal it, but it may prolong the healing time. Smoking increases this risk

GETTING READY FOR SURGERY

During your consultation, an explanation of preoperative and postoperative plan will be reviewed. You will be given a list of medication to avoid taking two weeks prior to the operation. A Linea staff member will contact you a few days before the surgery and notify you what time you are expected to arrive for your procedure and discuss any last minute details. At this time, you will be given an opportunity to ask any further questions. Continuing a healthy diet and exercise is very important prior to surgery. Smoking must be stopped two weeks prior to surgery.

SURGERY DAY

Do not eat or drink eight hours before your surgery. You should wear a button-down or zipper front shirt and sneakers. Do not wear sandals or slippers. You will meet with a member of our staff to prepare for surgery. Dr. Stiller will see you prior to your surgery to answer any final questions and meet family or friends. You will meet with our anesthesia provider to discuss anesthesia. For family or friends that accompany you, we have a lounge area to comfortably pass the time. You will need someone to drive you home after the operation and stay with you the first 24 hours after the surgery is completed.

THE SURGERY

After the Body Lift you will be placed in a compression garment. You will need to wear this for two weeks all the time followed by two weeks during activity. You will likely feel tired and sore a few days following the Body Lift, but we want you walking immediately after the surgery. Most of your discomfort can be controlled by prescribed pain medications.

AFTER THE SURGERY

Following surgery, you will likely have drainage from your incisions. Any discomfort you feel should be controlled with oral pain medications prescribed by Dr. Stiller. Depending on your job, you should be able to get back to work in a week or two. Resumption of exercise and normal activity will be directed by Dr. Stiller during your follow-up evaluations. The decision for a Body Lift is a very personal choice. The most important thing is how you feel. If your goals have been met, then your Body Lift was a success. However, it is very important to continue follow-ups as recommmended by Dr. Stiller. It is also important to continue a healthy diet and exercise routine to maintain your results.
