Brow Lift

A Brow Lift, or Forehead Lift, is a procedure designed to rejuvenate the forehead by elevating the brows into a more youthful position and reducing the vertical wrinkle (rhytids) caused by the elevation of the brows.  It can be performed in conjunction with other procedures.  Depending on what you are looking for it may be performed endoscopically, through a blepharoplasty incision, or with a incision at your hairline.
Most patients considering a Brow Lift notice that their upper eyelids are heavy or they feel they look mean.  Think carefully about your expectations and desires and discuss them with Dr. Stiller. A thorough understanding and explanation of what you are looking for is critical to you and your results.  Your consultation is a time for you to communicate your expectations to Dr. Stiller and work together to choose the best procedure for you.
This is the time for you to become comfortable with Dr. Stiller and the staff at Linea.  You should express your desires and expectations for the surgical procedure.  Dr. Stiller will evaluate your medical health and explain the surgical technique.  Dr. Stiller will go over the risks and potential complications of the procedure and will explain the pre-operative and post-operative process.
Although unusual, every surgical procedure as potential risks and complications.  Below is a list of potential risks/complications of blepharoplasty:

  • Bleeding- As with any surgery, bleeding is a risk. This may form a blood collection called a hematoma and may require drainage. It is important to discuss any history of excessive bleeding or family history of bleeding.
  • Infection- Infection is relatively uncommon. Antibiotics will be given to you during the surgery and will usually be taken after the surgery.
  • Nerve injury may occur- usually temporary.
  • Asymmetry- There may be asymmetry in some areas.
During your consultation an explanation of pre-operative and post-operative plan will be reviewed. You will be given a list of medication to avoid taking two weeks prior to the operation. A Linea staff member will contact you a few days before the surgery and notify you what time you are expected to arrive for your procedure and discuss any last minute details. At this time, you will be given an opportunity to ask any further questions. Continuing a healthy diet and exercise is very important prior to surgery. Smoking must be stopped two weeks prior to surgery.

A Brow Lift  can be performed with sedation or general anesthesia.
You will likely feel tired and sore for a few days following the surgery, but we want you walking immediately after the surgery.  Most of your discomfort can be controlled by the prescribed pain medications.  Sleep with your head elevated to decrease the amount of swelling.
Depending on your job, you should be able to get back to work in a few days.  Dr. Stiller will direct you regarding resuming exercise and normal activities during your follow-up evaluations.
The decision for a Brow Lift is a very personal choice.  The most important thing is how you feel.  If your goals have been met, then your Brow Lift was a success.  However, it is very important to continue follow-ups as recommended by Dr. Stiller.
